Hi,

I understand that rosehip oil can help with attenuate scars (surgical and accidental) and also avoids the formation of the keloid type of scar. However rosehip oil has relatively short shelf life.

What preservatives and how many percentage of the it can I add to the oil to prolong its shelf life?
How long would the shelf life be prolonged with added preservatives? Would the oil be too thick to apply straight on sugerical scar?

Thanks.

Heh Ning
Hi Heh Ning,
A preservative is not needed as bacteria does not grow in pure oil. An anti-oxidant will prolong the shelflife of the oil as it will stop the oil going rancid.
Natural vitamin E would be the one to use at approx. 1% to 3%
the shelf life of the rose hip oil before opening in 18 months, once used it varies depending on storage and other factors.

Nadine
Can I use 1%-3% synthetic vitamin e instead?

Heh Ning
Hi Heh Ning,
The synthetic vitamon E will not work as well and we suggest the natural vitamin E as your best option.
