Hi there,
I am very new to making products, but I want to create a cream for use on the belly during pregnancy, I was thinking about using a body butter and scenting it, how do you get bulk body butter into smaller containers? Any ideas, Thanks.

Hi Olivia,
just melt the butter, it goes to a liquid like oil, then mix your preferred essential oils, preservatives, etc and pour into bottles.

Does this apply to all base creams?
eg Body lotion, Night Cream, Moisturiser.

Hi Rachael,
I'm not sure. Its certainly true of the butters (mango, sheer nut, cocoa). I don't use the pre-prepared bases, but make my own. I imagine though, that they can't be melted down, but certainly you can take out a quantity, add your oils, then mix it through thoroughly with a blender for something. Then you could rebottle. If you are starting out very small and don't have equipment to do it, then the easiest way is to put a spoonful of lotion into the container and thump it until it all settles and all air bubbles are gone. A very long and tiring process, but effective.
Hope this has been helpful.

I should have mentioned this earlier, hope it isn't too late now. If you are making any creams or lotions for pregnant women, please becareful of what you add. Quite a few essential oils can cause a women to have a miscarriage. Please check with an aromatherapist or consult a good aromatherapy book. The fragrant pharmacy is an excellent one, and one that most aromatherapy courses list.
