Hi, I am going to Uganda in January for two weeks to work in a town called Kabale. I would love to be able to help them start a small business venture making skin care products. I have no idea what is available there as far as raw materials go and would probably take what I need. Once there, I would need to see what they have available. What I wanted to ask was, what do you suggest as something simple for them to be able to make without a lot of complicated ingredients and could you supply a few recipes? Thanks.

Judy
Hi Judy,
I would suggest a few books to view and maek your decision. I would recommend looking on the website at our book selection.

Suggested reading:
The Fragrant Pharmacy- by Valerie Ann Worwood
Do It Yourself - Pure Plant Skincare - by Carolyn Stubbin
The Complete book of Incense, Oils and Brews

You will need to decide which products are suitable for you to take with you.

I hope it all goes well.

Nadine
Judy,

before you go too far, you need to talk to officials from here and from their country. I would hate to see you buy a lot of stuff, only to have it confiscated at the airport. What you have in mind sounds like a lot of products required bulk wise. Would you be considered an exporter by the Austrlian government? Would you be considerred and importer by their government.

Do you know much about the culture an history of the place? Do you have contacts already there? Might the local people see you as a rich western person imposing your ideas? Would you be coming across as paternalistic? Would your idea be welcome?

You said you would love to help them, but do they want your help? Have you considered this from their point of view? It is great to assist others to help themselves, but only if it is what they want.
