I am new to making my own skin care products and have viewed some of the recipes on your site and I also have a book with recipes in it. However, I am unsure of shelf life and what preservatives I can add to increase the life of the cream. Can you please suggest an all round preservative, if there is such a thing, or give me some ideas as to the best ones to use.

Hi Shanon,
We have many preservatives available for you to choose from. On our website, if you go to raw materials, then preservatives, you will find both synthetic and completely natural blends. Individual extracts are also available that can be used on thier own or blended together.
If you are making products to sell retail and would like the maximum shelf life, ai would recommend either the Plantaserv P with no scent, which is syntheitc, or the Plantaserv Q which is completely natural and has a sweet scent. Both of these can be used at 0.5 to 3% in your product.
The shelf life depends on many things. How the products are prepared, how the products are kept and once purchased, how they are used and stored.
Using clean and sterilised utensils and sterilising your containers and keeping the products in a cool, dry shady place, are all essential steps to extending the shelf life of your product, as well as using preservatives.
We have many books for you to purchase. One that has alot of home made recipes is "The Fragrant Pharmacy" at $29.95 before GST.
Another is "Aromatherapy for Home Use" at $7.95 before GST.
I hope I have answered all your questions.
