What is the best and cheapest way to test the ph of products made at home?

Bobby
Hi Bobby,

you should be able to get some ph strips from your local chemist. They aren't too expensive and if they don't have them in, they can order them. Explain you want them to test the ph of soaps.

Michelle
Just to add to that, the strips you would need are called universal indicator, make sure you do not use litmus paper as this will only tell you if it is acid or alkali. The universal indicator has a different colour for each pH value. There is also the liquid version. NB. The pH of your product will change with every batch as a result of using natural ingredients, therefore will need to be checked and altered by different amounts each time.

Thanks for the info. Finding it hard to obtain but managed to get some through a friend who works at a high school. Can anyone suggest a more reliable source.

Bobby
Hi Bobby I managed to get some through my local chemist. They ordered them and they arrived overnight. Cost $20 for 200. Hope that helps. Lel

Lesley
Hi Lesley,

yes that was my original advice. Seems the chemist is the best solution.

Michelle
Thanks heaps.
Looks like I need to find a diffrent chemist.
