For anyone working with Vitamin C here is what I've found out so far.

Working with vitamin C can be Tricky! Vitamin C is water soluble and is hard to dissolve with most other solvents. Now here comes the tricky bit, water oxidizes vitamin C and makes it unstable. Ascorbic Acid the most skin beneficial form of Vitamin C is also the most unstable form especially in water. So you can go for other forms of vitamin C, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (oil soluble form), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (water stable form) and others. These forms of vitamin c are not easy to find in Australia and generally more expensive, also requiring higher levels of synthetic ingredients and chemistry expertise.

A few steps to insure you get the most out of your Vitamin C.
The amount of water used in your product should be limited to what is required to dissolve the Vitamin C. Vitamin C is more stable in emulsions. Stability is increased by keeping your product at a Ph of 3 to 3.5. Only make small batches aim for 15ml to 30ml serums. Limit air exposure to your product. Add other antioxidants to your formula to protect the vitamin C.
Below 1% Vitamin C stability is compromised and therapeutic effect is minimal.
Vitamin C at 5% will impart most of its therapeutic effects.
Vitamin C at 10% is most effective and is about the most you should aim for without the help of a chemist.
Remember that Vitamin C is an acid and can sting in high concentrations. Lastly Vitamin C discolours when it oxidizes so watch for colour changes in your product. I hope this helps and would love to hear any other formultion tips for working with vitamin C.

Could you answer these question i recently had from a customer regarding your lanolin.
1. How pure is your pure lanolin. Is it 100%. What are the other
constituents in it.
2. Is your pure lanolin 100% natural?
3. Is your product in the form of Oil or Cream?
The customer would like to use the lanolin as on their skin as a mosturiser/emolient would that be advisable?
Thank you

Hello, I have a couple of questions which I hope you can answer:

I have a recipe for a household cleaner that uses dried Soapwort. Can the extract be used in place of the dried herb and if so, how how do measurements compare?
Can you tell me what "white wax" is? Is it the same as white bees' wax?
Many thanks.

Hi, I tried a perfume recipe over the weekend (for 50 ml) that consisted of combining alcohol (I used v. pure Vodka), distilled water & essential oils. I used Turkey Red oil (4 drops) as a solubilizer. I mixed the components appropriately according to recipe, left for 24 hours & then filtered. It is now a milky substance rather than being clear as most eau de colognes are. Any explanations or ideas? Lynn.

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone have a clue one what formula suits best when mixing fragrant oil and DPG (Di Propylene Glycol) with a bag of 600 unscented stks (yes, the ones sold here). I'd like to achieve a strong, yet not annoying result avoiding soot and headaches or general annoyance.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings. I emailed NewdirectionsUK the 4th of january with on response so far and that worries me so I things in mind:

1. Can I trust this company, has anyone ordered before?
2. Are the fragrance oils suitable for incense making?
3. Are the unscented incense sticks true to the product or are the pictures outdated? (are they 11", look like on the picture etc)
4. I also wonder if ND serve the wholesale community and what the minimum is?
5. I am located in Sweden, which website has the most inexpensive shipping costs?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
1) We would like to order goods to Hong Kong. In order to save shipping cost, should we order it from Australia /USA/ Taiwan?

2) If we order products from Australia /USA/ Taiwan, are the packaging idential? From the website shown, for essential oils, the one from Australia are amber glass with white cap, while the one from USA are amber glass with black cap.

3) From USA website, essentail oils will go through Gas Chromatography (GC) Analysis, is the same applied to the one we purchase from Australia?

Hi, I'm trying to purchase some tissue papers from your packaging website but it doesn't allow me to add an international address during checkout. Do you ship to other countries for packaging solution? If yes, is it possible for me to combine products in this site with those in the packaging site and have them to be shipped together? Thanks..

Hi! I am adding essential oils to your toiletry bases and in some cases would like to add an additional fragrance. Should I add other essential oils which compliment the main oil and if so in what proportion (I am currently adding 25 drops per 100ml)? Otherwise perhaps you can suggest a better way of introducing a complimentary fragrance e.g. to fennel. Thanks

Hi, I was just wondering if you will be producing recipie books using New Directions various ingredients covering all areas. I know another aromatherapy company in Sydney does this. I would be most interested in your company producing there own range of recipie books as you have a great aray of products, good prices, good customer service etc, For users this would provide examples of the various uses for your products including the ones that I am not familiar with.
