hi there,

i'm trying to make ointment for babies, for warming and clearing the nose. i was thinking of using shea butter, mango butter and cocoa butter along with unrefined beeswax, then i would some essential oils. for the warming effect i was thinking of adding a few menthol crystals. is it ok if i do so for babies? does beeswax cause any allegric effect on the skin esp for babies?

Hi Maryam,
I would not recommend any essential oils be applied to a babies skin without consultation. You may like to choose a blend from one of our books.

I would recommend an air spray be used to minimise the germs in the air. This can be sprayed into the air around the house and outside the babies room but do not spray inside the babies room.

Fragrant Pharmacy-by Valerie Worwood on page 222 has a variety of blend for you to choose from. Available rom New Directions.

This blend can be used as an anti-bacterial spray:
10 drops Eucalyptus
10 drops tea tree
10 drops lavender
mix with 30 drops solubuliser and 90ml distilled water into a 100ml bottle. Shake well before use.

Good luck

Nadine
