Hey guys,

I've just finished reading "Making aromatherapth creams & lotions" by Donna Maria which I purchased last week. The book only briefly mentions maximising the shelf life of natural skin care products. It dicusses refridgerating the final product, but I'd like to know how to do this by altering the product itself. Do you have any other books that cover this area in greater detail? I'd like to actually know which natural elements can be added to prolong the life of the whole product and guidelines to as how long they will actually last.

Thanks,
Jason

Dear Jason,
These are some great questions, and is completely the area that the natural cosmetic industry has been looking into for a long time. There is unfortunately no book on the market that i know of that has been able to supply possible hints, theories or answers to this dilemma.
certain essential oils i believe can be used that are anti-microbial combined with those that are anti-oxidant. The problem, is that they then tend to scent the product far too much. It is an area worth experimenting though. On a more positive note, shortly, new directions shall be adding a new preservative to its vast range of products which is 100% natural, keep an eye out in the New Products section for when it is released.
